On October 5th, I will be leaving Locust Point (Baltimore) to start a week-long journey to the Southernmost Point of Key West, FL as part of the Ulman Foundation’s Point-to-Point team. Along the way, the Ulman Foundation team will be stopping to visit cancer centers, hospitals, and meeting patients and their families to raise awareness about young adult cancer. We will begin our days by walking/running 2-3 hours towards our next destination along the coast, all while sharing the UF mission.
Why am I running???
I was 35 years old when my doctor called with my biopsy results - I had breast cancer. I went through 12 months of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, radiation, multiple infections, sepsis and several stages of reconstruction surgery. Through it all, I had more support and felt more love than I ever could have imagined, all of which made a positive difference in my recovery.
Everything happens for a reason! It may sound crazy, but I truly believe the horrific experiences I survived happened to me so that I may be a supportive resource for others -- which is why this trip is perfect for me! Everyone has a meaning, and offering support to other survivors is mine.
If you are able, please consider helping me in this journey by donating via the link below. Funds raised will support the UF efforts to help navigate other adults through their cancer treatments and to provide scholarship and support programs for cancer survivors all over the country.
Thank you for supporting me in this chapter of my cancer survival journey!
Each year more than 72,000 young adults are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Young adults (ages 15-39) face a variety of unique challenges with a cancer diagnosis including social isolation, fertility preservation, insurance concerns, delayed diagnosis, and survivorship.
The Ulman Foundation changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, Ulman is able to provide free services and resources for the young adult cancer community through programs that focus on patient support services, housing, survivorship, and scholarship.
