Hi! My name's Mike! I'm a two-time Ulman Foundation 4K For Cancer cross-country alum [Seattle '13 and San Fran '15] now current fourth-year medical student with this crazy thought that we CAN change the world.

In the summers of 2013 and 2015, I cycled across the United States, a cumulative 8,692 miles, raising money and awareness for young adults with cancer. Along the way, I met and heard stories of patients fighting battles far beyond my comprehension. I interacted with families whose lives were halted and flipped upside down following a devastating, often unexpected, diagnosis. I became humbled too that our stories helped these patients climb their mountains. In reality however, the stories these patients and families shared with us served as the fuel that allowed us to climb the mountains we encountered. Even now, I carry the stories of the hundreds of individuals I was lucky enough to meet everywhere I go.

Now four-years immersed into the world of medicine, I have seen and more deeply appreciate the staggering amount of gaps in support for this very specific patient population. Reflecting back to my summers with the Ulman Foundation, it is evermore clear how pivotal and life-altering the interventions provided by this organization can be for patients. I have seen first-hand directly where each and every dollar raised goes and how dramatically it can change the way patients navigate their own very difficult journeys.

Please consider joining me in doing our part in changing the way patients climb their mountains. Cancer is a disease that changes lives. But together, so can WE!

Each year more than 72,000 young adults are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Young adults (ages 15-39) face a variety of unique challenges with a cancer diagnosis including social isolation, fertility preservation, insurance concerns, delayed diagnosis, and survivorship.

The Ulman Foundation changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, Ulman is able to provide free services and resources for the young adult cancer community through programs that focus on patient support services, housing, survivorship, and scholarship.
