Chris Walczak

I am thrilled to have been named a 2019 Ulman Foundation GameChanger and thrilled to dedicate a year of service to this great cause!!

Over the next year I hope to raise awareness for the young adult cancer community, raise spirits of those battling cancer, and raise funds to help this amazing foundation continue into the future!

More About - MY WHY

I don't have Cancer, I don't specifically have someone fighting as a young adult now, but as they say... "but for the grace of God, go I"... I could. Rather, I have been blessed, and as a way of being appreciative, or paying it forward, I plan to spend some of my time on this earth trying to do some good.

More About - How Cancer has already touched my life.

We have all been touched by it in one way or another. For me, I was barely a young adult myself, in some ways old enough to understand what was going on, but in many ways, utterly incapable of really understanding the struggles surrounding me. I watched my mother go get chemotherapy after the Mastectomy surgery she had to remove her breast and her breast cancer. The regular treatment sessions after work meant lots of changes, but mom was strong, she’d hide all the difficulties and use the struggle as a way to teach her children.Today, mom is a cancer survivor, and still one of the strongest people I know.

Unfortunately, so many others aren’t as strong as mom, don’t have the same support as her, don’t have local access to such a great team of doctors, or simply don't catch it soon enough. I have watched others in my circle battle and lose to this terrible disease, not the least of which being my beloved father-in-law Frank. We all have been touched in one way or another, and so, because I can, I will fight to help others.

Each year more than 72,000 young adults are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Young adults (ages 15-39) face a variety of unique challenges with a cancer diagnosis including social isolation, fertility preservation, insurance concerns, delayed diagnosis, and survivorship.

The Ulman Foundation changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, Ulman is able to provide free services and resources for the young adult cancer community through programs that focus on patient support services, housing, survivorship, and scholarship.
