This summer, a team of 25 and I will be running across the country to raise money, awareness, and hope for young adults with cancer. We will begin our run in Baltimore, Maryland, and finish it by running across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California. In 49 days, we will cross 15 state lines; each of us individually covering anywhere from 10-18 miles (16-29km) each day in a team relay-style format. Running into new towns and cities every day, we will be both spend time exploring and volunteering at cancer clinics with patients and families.
This journey's success relies heavily on the generosity and kindness of strangers, not only with our fundraising, but daily donations of food and hosts. We will sleep in churches, schools, YMCAs, and community centers, and seek meal donations from local grocery stores and restaurants! The 4K will certainly be an unpredictable adventure and life-changing experience, and I'm honored to be on this amazing team, running with teammates as passionate about service and support as I am.
I will be running across the country in dedication to the memory of Toni Guimaraes, a father, husband, friend, and who exemplified kindness, humor, resilience, and love. Toni touched countless lives and was a role model to many; he was, and always will be, a wonderful example of what it means to be a good human, and always expressed the importance of giving back to your community and beyond.
Please help me support the wonderful Ulman Foundation by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance Ulman Foundation's great cause! Please feel to reach out to me if you have any questions, thank you!! Lauren
Each year more than 72,000 young adults are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Young adults (ages 15-39) face a variety of unique challenges with a cancer diagnosis including social isolation, fertility preservation, insurance concerns, delayed diagnosis, and survivorship.
The Ulman Foundation changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, Ulman is able to provide free services and resources for the young adult cancer community through programs that focus on patient support services, housing, survivorship, and scholarship.
